RIPSAW is an unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) built in a garage by two brothers who have day jobs, and may soon be headed to Iraq. At 60 mph it's far faster than the Army's M-1 Abrams tank, which tops at 42 mph. It is, however, more lightly armed by far, with a single machine gun. But it has many potential battlefield uses. Their $750k creation was built with $1.25M of earmark money--for once, a pet project that does good (credit Maine GOP Senator Susan Collins). Popular Science Magazine awarded the brothers its Invention Award.
