Obama's alternate quantum universe Mideast....
Begin with Israel--with PM Binyamin ("Bibi") Netanyahu's tart formulation on Fox News Sunday of the difference between how Israel and the Palestinians are fighting the Third Gaza War: "We're using missile defense to protect our citizens, and they're using their citizens to protect their missiles."
A series of recent posts at Commentary (sub. req.) detail various sins of Team Obama & its media allies for their: (a) distorted portrait of Netanyahu; (b) misleading "blood-feud" narrative; (c) blaming Israel as rockets fall on major Israeli cities; (d) obsession with "peace talks" that actually exacerbate the conflict; (e) blaming Israel for human-shield collateral casualties, casualties Hamas seeks to maximize, and which cause Israel to give advance warning of strikes, thus lessening their effectiveness--and even encouraging Hamas to move more civilians into the targeted area; (f) citing collateral body count whilst ignoring the human-shield context; (g) ignoring Israeli children suffering from PTSD due to fear of rockets; (h) laying the groundwork for more Gazas; and (i) most amazing of all, being less critical of Hamas than European countries not known for warm feelings towards Israel.
Understanding the conflict requires appreciating how the Palestinians use an extensive tunnel network. Dug up to 30 meters deep, they facilitate concealing weaponry--rockets--forays into Israel to kidnap Israelis, etc.
Roger Simon prays that Bibi tells Obama to "stuff it"-- a sentiment hard to resist given the administration's utterly egregious conduct & statements during this latest round of aggression by Hamas, supported as well by the Palestinian Authority. Simon writes:
Well, maybe not stuff it, but finally someone may be standing up to America’s ultra-reactionary, fumbling, paleo-narcissistic and now hugely unpopular president — and his name is Benjamin Netanyahu. If we are to believe the Jerusalem Post, Bibi should be the leader of the free world. Arrivederci, Barry. Take your favorite nine iron and head off to Maui or the Vineyard or wherever you want to be with our blessings — as long as you stay there....
The Congress can start by superseding the reactionary Obama administration and defunding the Palestinian Authority until it breaks with Hamas. In fact, they should defund it forever until the PA recognizes Israel as a Jewish state. This is the moment. Enough appeasement of barbaric Islamic societies. Let’s start believing in ourselves.
Bibi already is following this path, having rejected Obama's offer to broker a ceasefire. Ceasefires are premises on "cycle of violence" concepts that impose morally-neutered "action-reaction" dynamics on a conflict that in reality is a continuum of Palestinian violence, from low- to high-intensity--aimed at undermining the Jewish State. David Horovitz at the Times of Israel Bibi took further steps by explicitly taking a hard-line: “I think the Israeli people understand now what I always say: that there cannot be a situation, under any agreement, in which we relinquish security control of the territory west of the River Jordan.” Bibi further stated that the Third Gaza War may take a long time, and placed responsibility for Gazan civilian deaths on Hamas, and "them alone"--a black-letter proposition of international law oft ignored by Israel's critics.
DH further notes that Bibi publicly called out SecState Kerry & Gen. John Allen, Team Obama military point man re security. Bibi will insist on a security presence on the West Bank that precludes full Palestinian sovereignty, stating that the West Bank is 20 times the 14-kilometer size of Gaza, where an incredible 1,200 tunnels have been dug by Hamas.
In stark contrast to Team Obama's moral equivalence, Texas Gov. Rick Perry offered unequivocal support for Israel.
Nothing captures the insane stupidity of the Palestinians--having spurned the opportunity for peace & prosperity given them when Israel unilateral vacated Gaza in 2005--than their destruction of a modern Jerusalem light-rail transport system--which cost over $1 billion--built with Israeli money for West Bank residents of connected towns. Mideast maven Jonathan Schanzer aptly termed this act "self-apartheid."
Bottom Line. As the Mideast sinks deeper into chaos, Team Obama resembles the oft-quoted line about the 18th century French Bourbon kings: "They have learned nothing and forgotten nothing." In this he resembles nothing so much as the Palestinian thug-leadership.
